Ride 45km, Swim 1200m? approx, 4 laps Kurnell (74km)
Thw whole point of today for me was just getting on IM pace. Im tired anyway so its a mental battle but hey - Im back instore now and glad I got it done. Have the half tomorrow - really dont know how ill handle the fast run on absolutely no recovery and weeks of build up and accumulated fatigue, I havent even had a day or afternoon off in readiness for tomorrow.
Back to the point, I decided due to timing and traffic to ride from home to Kurnell (45km, took it pretty easy and got to Kurnell with 20 minutes or so to get ready for the ocean swim. Didn't go flat out and you could tell, think I was about 2 minutes behind the front guys and just behind Jeff out of the water.18:30 approx.
Onto the bike with just a regular setup (no race wheels or aero helmet), I pretty much nabbed two spots in transition with one of the guys jumping on my sheel for half the first lap. I was expecting the front guys to go a bit faster but for the first 1.5 laps I held my ground pretty well, and specifically didnt do any drafting for the entire 4 laps, choosing to ride solo OR sit the 5 bike lengths back (1/2 lap only). Stop after Lap one (Mark needed allen key) and stop lap 2 (Water and toilet) lost me 3-4 minutes, but all in all it was just the ride quality I was after and just focussed on my own thing. Im happy with the outcome
2:10, 245.9 (power) and Ave speed of 35.01.
Phew - How will the run go tomorrow? Update you soon!
