Sun 14th December Canberra HIM

AM
Swim 1.9km Time of 34 somthing, not great.

Run 2o minutes, Ride 1 hour (Whilst supporting the guys)

What a day. Im exhausted now as much as I would be If I had done the race myself! The weather, cold top 18 degrees? and wind growing stronger and stronger. I though i'd do ok in the swim but i really feel now as though I cannot swim in a wetsuit. At the GC it seemed ok, I could go hard, Today nothing!!!!!! I tried to go hard, arms felt lactic, everything did, I swallowed water in the rough lake, I had no power or rather felt like i couldn't use it, I couldn't breathe. I stopped to pull the bloody thing off my neck, and it filled a bit with water - either way I struggled out and felt like crap. I had my knee strapped and this together with the pressure of the wetty meant it felt sore running up to the handover.

Apart from that team HOTCAKES went fantastically, Peter rode like a stallion, its the first time he has ever ridden over 70km and its in a half (The yellow Ferrari with HED race wheels must have done the trick). Jo ran so well in the toughest of conditions and was less than a minute off a PB and thats after having to wake at 4:30am and wait around for 6 hours. The best part for pete though was beating his wife Jodes, who was running for the much more fancied team (KEG) by a whole 10 seconds, it was gripping stuff. Jodes ran an impressive time of 1:42.

Pete finished off a polished performance with Bacon and Egg roll/coffee, Kingsleys 3 southern fried chicken pieces, large chips gravy and extra salt, Ice cream to be followed closely by grapes and Beer - Food of champions?

All the others went so well (Update when available) I think the Jeff and Steve did a superb job and both of them deserved their results.

I did my first run of 20 minutes, first time in 2.5 weeks - Knee hurt to a point but didnt really get worse, after it calmed down very quickly. Also when I was riding sometimes it was hard, others it didn't hurt , so all in all I'm not too disappointed. Ill look to ramp it back up over 2 weeks and get a cortisone injection if it niggles. I iced it later in the day and its feeling pretty good.
