Trained pretty well again this week. The funny thing is that whenever you improve in something you realise you still have so much more to go!
Tuesday night was tough.
I was coming back from a cold the week before. Track of 8*1km with about 60secs jog recovery
3, 3:06, 3:08, 3:08, 3:12, 3:07, 3:07, 2:51!
The training highlights of this week would have to be me running my first 10km since November last year. Back then I ran the Run4fun in 32:41, mind you I was training for the ironman so I wasnt in peak running form either, but still it gives me an indication that I have improved a little since then.
Novice 10km I ran in 33:03 (Cross Country) and the corners, grass, turns and sandy patched slowed me a little. It was probably yhe last hot day of the summer/autumn with plenty of windgusts making it hard work.
After an epic traffic jammed trip to the race start Craig ran well in the opens to come top 20 (Even though he got jibbed with the time). I had over an hour to spare, got ready did a warm up and went out and raced. I had plenty of nerves before as there were a few people around me racing either opens or novice that had been consistantly beating me at training in the kast few weeks but I really hoped by now I could be arounf their level.
I managed to hang with the front guys for the first 2km's and then dropped back into the second pack. On the second big loop running into the wind I ended up in front so rather then having everyone fdraft off me I just put my head down and opened a 30m break quite quickly, i hadnt intended to to that but since I had it I took it. So now I was in third with the front 2 runners national level quality and a while in front-it stayed like that for a while, well until about 8km and then I was really dying. So 3-5th were bunched together in the last 2km's and I had no kick so finished 5th but the time was ok.
33:03
5th
3:16, 3:13, 3;16, 3:21, 3:16, 3:24, 3:28, 3:28, 3:24, 2:51 (Bit short on the garmin)
