Overall a good race, the time above for the bike includes an official loss of 2 minutes for drafting, I also lost another minute for small mishaps. There are areas to improve but I was very happy to come out of the water in front of one of my main rivals and ride with them, unluckily (as told by other competitors) I got done for drafting, when the fact was that unlike most of the group I was either well in front or behing and only got done when course marshells penalised me when a rider had just pulled in front of me!
Swim:
29:53 87th overall and 15th in category was good. Got pushed around only a bit and when I focussed on my technique I felt good. Finally I feel better in a wetsuit so now I just need to keep working on the swim a bit.
The transition out onto the bike was a shocker, lost around 30seconds at least and have many things to improve.
Bike:
5km in, got caught by Charlie and 4 others. This was the start of the pack. I rode in that group for the rest of the race. Sure there was drafting going on but seriously if you dont you get left behind, I never rode on a wheel unless I was overtaking and stayed a distance behind the others. A lot of the time I actually took turns or tried to get away too. Apart from the first 5km I felt good with the setup and the new race wheels. There were a lot of guys flatting on the course and I was just so glad it didnt happen to me, some idiots had been placing tacks on the road! Road into T2 via the penalty box to start the run.
Run 71:58, 2nd in category and 13th fastest for the day. Now the good hing is that compared to the Gold Coast Half i could run so much better. I felt comfortable the whole run and probably could have gone a bit quicker if I came of the bike in the pack I was with. So saying that I have room to improve here, I had a niggle in my back LHS and had to stop twice to do up my shoe laces. Apart from that it went well.
